Here at Free at Last we are not naive to the causes of incarceration. And we are not clueless about how fixing the problems of incarceration is, to say the least, an uphill battle. We do know and profess that belief and faith in Jesus Christ and Prayer can and does have the most powerful effect on the many problems of the world incarceration being just one. To this end, we can state that Free at Last, is here because of the love we have for Christ and his people. Who are Christ's people? Everyone, the saved, unsaved, poor, rich, young, old, man, woman, the afflicted, the confused. As a client of Free at Last while you are seeking God's love via his scripture we are faithful to work and help you meet some basic needs and provide resources as we find them.
Challenges You Will Face
Addiction
There is one method of ruining your life that is perhaps more effective than all psychological pitfalls you may encounter and that is addiction. Addiction will certainly rob you of your money friendships relationships and will change your personality for the worst, land you in prison, and finally, kill you. Addiction comes in a variety of forms sure drugs and alcohol are obvious but addiction can show itself in sex, gambling, video games, and the internet. In fact, anything that can hijack your brain's dopamine reward centers is a candidate for addiction. Addiction will start a vicious cycle where one continually engages with the addiction despite the negative costs to their own lives. It does not matter if we stress our partner, parents, children, or anyone else out or blow all of our money you're going the get that next high. Addiction is extremely hard to curb once it has its claws in you. in fact addiction will want you not to quit at any cost. As addiction takes over more and more of your life it has a devastating effect on your relationships. As you progress in your addiction anyone who knows and cares for you will see your lack of intimacy, they will see that they can no longer trust you, and they see you become more distant. When people that care for you start voicing their concerns about your habits you will say anything to get them off your back or worse resort to violence.
Psychological Pitfalls
The trouble with Mental Health. Mental Health has become an industry, a machine with boxes to tick and students to train. And with all this, it is the people with the mental issues that suffer. You make appointments with the professionals if you can get one, and only if you did your homework on how to get the cost covered with state resources. And during this time you are dealing with a real psychological disorder or multiple disorders that sometimes lead you into thoughts of suicide or worse uncontrollable rage. The Mental Health industry does not want to fix you, they want to control your symptoms. For the large majority of the system, this control comes in the form of powerful medications which are dispensed via the "Shot Gun" method. This method is where many types of medications are loaded at once and fired at the patient to see which ones stick and have the best outcome. Not to discount the system as a whole but doctors are hard to find good doctors are even harder, and deep meaningful therapy is not going to happen when utilizing state resources.
Addiction and Psychological Pitfalls are the mechanisms of the wheel of despair that keeps one coming and going into institutions over and over. We, however, have the answer but the work is hard and the road is long. It starts with a total turnaround of how you view yourself and the world around you. It will take planning, fortitude, surrender, and most important faith in Jesus Christ and hard study of the scripture so as not to be deceived. We are here to help where we can and advocate on your behalf as best we can. Success is neither magical nor mysterious, Success is the natural consequence of continuously applying basic fundamentals. So with this welcome and may God bless in all things and in all his ways.
Sincerely
